We have booked a lovely flatish camping field at Nottage, Porthcawl for this long weekend to coincide with Porthcawl’s Annual Elvis Festival, the largest annual tribute to Elvis in the world, where you get Elvis impersonators of ALL standards performing throughout the day and late into the evening at most of Portcawl’s pubs and clubs but also huge organised shows in Porthcawl’s Grand Pavilion and the Hi-Tide, last year there were also lots of impromptu acts out the on the streets. The festival starts on Friday and continues through to Sunday.
We have another THS running in tandem with Fontygary!! This one is at Happy Valley near Porthcawl. It will be running from 16th August for two weeks until 27th August. More details, including directions and facilities, can be found on our website by following this link at the bottom.

All Camping and Caravanning Club Members are invited to join South Wales DA for the second of our summer THS’s. This time we are at Fontygary Leisure Park for three weeks from 9th August to 1st September. We are camping on the rally field which means no electric hookup but we do have use of the showers and toilet facilities on site, these are about a 400m walk from our field. We also have full use of site complex, this includes, bars, restaurants, cafe, fish and chip shop, 10 pin bowling, swimming pool(reduced admission cost for campers), gym, childrens play area and more. The rally field is on a stunning cliff top location overlooking the Bristol Channel and Somerset beyond. Follow the link below for more information and directions
The Summer THS is now well under way, why not come and join us at Pembrey Country Park, we are here between July 19th and August 9th.
We are camping on the Rally Field known as the Archery Field, there’s plenty of room so no need to book in advance, just turn up and introduce yourself to one of the site stewards and they will point you to your pitch, then put your feet up and relax or venture off and enjoy all that the Country Park has to offer.
The Park is one of Wales’s Top Visitor attractions, its set in 500 acres of woodland and bordered to the south by eight miles of sandy beach.
Activities on site include: Long Walks, Safe Cycling, Adventure Playground, Miniature Railway, Dry Ski Slope, Toboggan Run, Mini Golf, Disk Golf, Cafes, Restaurant and lots more.
We need stewards to help out at this summer THS’s at Pembrey, Fontygary and Happy Valley.
If you would like to offer your services to help steward the meet for a day or two at any one of these meets please contact us and we’ll see if we can fit you in.
For those that haven’t stewarded before it isn’t as daunting as some think, all you need to do is welcome new arrivals, book them in and take their money……
There will always be a committee member or an experienced camper to hand to help out if needed and you will be shown the ropes before you take charge.
And a big plus point, for the duration of your stewarding duties you won’t have to pay site fees.
You don’t have to be a member of South Wales DA, just a C&CC member. So if you are interested please contact us and we’ll put you on the list

Now we’re all back home, can I say a big thank you to all the Members and Committee Members for all their hard work arranging, moving furniture, cleaning, cooking, moving furniture again, cleaning, cooking, moving furniture, cleaning, etc. etc. etc. personally, if I see another peanut on the floor it can stay there……
Hopefully you’ll all agree that it was a fantastic weekend, we started off the entertainment on Friday in the hall with the beautiful singing duo Step-It-Up singing a great mix of modern and older songs.
Saturday started with fun and games in the afternoon and on into the early evening, including crafts, Easter Bonnet making and colouring for the children.
Then we moved on to Saturday evenings entertainment, the band, The Big Lick, louder and faster paced than last nights duo but still a good mix of old and new hits. Lots of you were up and dancing, it’s the Stereophonics effect.

Sunday morning we held our Coffee morning and Raffle in the hall followed by Easter Bonnet and colouring judging and then egg throwing in the field.
Then late afternoon we held our AGM, no dramas to report. Immediately following the AGM the Committee adjured upstairs and successfully formed a new committee without any need to resort to blackmail or coercion. There were a couple of positional changes but mainly it remains the same.
A bowl or two of Cawl and cheese(Google it) and then on into the evening with, to name a few, “Build a kitchen out of newspaper and tape” and Bingo!
Once again, thank you all for your continued support and long may it continue.

After the success and fun of 2018’s Cook-Off at NFOL, the Club is launching Club Campsite Cook of the Year 2019 – in association with CADAC, the Club’s Eat Local sponsor – and want you to take part.
All regions and sections have been invited to hold heats in order to find their best campsite cooks to enter into the Club-wide competition.
To find our most enthusiastic, talented and keen campsite cooks, CAMBRIAN AND WYVERN REGION will be holding our own heat in July / August 2019, date and venue to be announced.
The winner of our regional event will win a Cadac Grillo Chef.
In August 2019, all region/section winners’ recipes will be judged by the Eat Local team at HQ, and eight winners invited to take part in the exciting cook-off final at the Cadac stand, NFOL on Saturday 21 September 2019.
The overall winner will be presented with a Club Cook of the Year Trophy and a City Chef 50. The winning recipe will also be published in the Eat Local pages of the magazine. There are fantastic runner-up prizes too.
So, how do
you get involved?
The essence of the competition is to
demonstrate skill and creativity in producing a simple campsite meal beyond
burgers and sausages.
We are asking entrants to send us their
recipe for one main course meal. This meal must be a camping-friendly recipe,
one that is possible to prepare and cook at your pitch on a bbq grill or gas
stove. (No ovens, microwaves or electric appliances allowed)
The actual cooking time (not including prep)
must be 30 minutes or under.
The recipes will be judged on suitability
for campsite cooking, creativity, and in particular the judges will be looking
for a meal that embraces the spirit of our Eat
Local campaign, whether it’s using a
fresh local, seasonal ingredient, incorporates a regional cheese, beer or fruit
or perhaps just taking inspiration from a regional dish or flavour.
From easy but tasty one pan suppers,
exciting salads, vegetarian feast a fabulous fish dish, great grilled meats to
pasta with a twist… anything goes, we are looking to be inspired!

We are at the wonderful National Showcaves of Wales for this weekend, come along and join us, there’s plenty to see and do for both adults and children.
We have the luxury of hard standing, electric hookup, toilets and showers for the weekend as we are staying on the caravan park within the grounds of the park. See Dan-yr-Ogof page for directions and details.
